About the
Silicon Valley Digital Forensics Laboratory
Est. 2022
In collaboration with San Jose State University and California State University East Bay, Silicon Valley Digital Forensics Laboratory was established in 2022 by Drs Bryce Westlake and Michelle Rippy.

With a focus on innovation, our mission is to cultivate learning and practical environments that meet entry-level digital forensics requirements. We prioritize critical thinking, real life problem-solving, leadership development, and collaboration. We strive to accomplish this through three means. First, the implementation of a practitioner-informed Bachelor of Science degree in digital forensics, balancing theoretical knowledge with practical training. Second, the utilization of internships to provide hands-on, collaborative, experiences working with digital devices from active criminal and non-criminal investigations. Third, the advancement of digital forensics research to improve educational, evidentiary, and processing practices.
Our vision is to foster an ethnic- and gender-diverse workforce that embraces inclusivity, empowers its professionals, and leads the way in addressing the evolving challenges of the digital era.
